Gerry has an extensive professional history in commercial, residential and multi-family LIHTC property developments along with management of the same. In most cases, site selection, zoning variances, site plans, financing, contractor negotiations and finally the sale of the properties are Gerry’s responsibility.
Gerry developed G.A. Haan Development L.L.C., a real estate development company with locations in Northwest Michigan and Phoenix, Arizona. Haan Development is engaged in development and consulting services throughout the United States providing professional expertise encompassing development, financing, Tax Credit implementation, planning, and coordinating the functions required in all aspects of commercial, housing, rehabilitation and raw land development. Those developments include new construction multi-family LIHTC properties, acquisitions and rehabilitated properties, historical renovations as well as various commercial endeavors. Gerry works directly with all ongoing developments, consulting, management and construction of projects. Gerry and his key staff members have over 75 years combined experience in the development, engineering and construction businesses and have successfully completed over 25 developments (over 1000 units) totaling over $130 million since the 2006 inception.
Haan Development founded NLR Property Management LLC out of the need for quality property management services for its portfolio. NLR Property Management specializes in the full service management of affordable and market-rate multi-family housing currently serving North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Michigan and Arizona. At NLR Property Management, they focus on maximizing the value and achieving the highest level of efficiency at each property all while insuring an outstanding experience for the tenants who live on site.
In 2016 Haan Development founded United Construction Services LLC for its portfolio. United Construction Services specializes, but is not limited to, construction of multi-family LIHTC properties throughout the United States. Gerry’s philosophy in developing this company is to implement operational excellence into all aspects of pre-construction, actual construction and post construction.
Ben’s extensive background working with Michigan State Housing Development Authority lends an inordinate amount of insight to the underwriting, application and closing of multi-family LIHTC properties achieved by G.A. Haan Development L.L.C.
Since 2010, Ben is responsible for producing nearly 500 new, affordable housing units across four states using low income housing tax credits, HOME funds, CDBG funds, and other local, state and federal resources. In all cases, site selection, city entitlements and approvals, negotiations and oversight of architects and general contractors, all of which will lend to the success and development of United Construction Services.
Mike began his career in the building industry in 1997 where he honed his carpentry skills learning everything from framing and roofing, to custom trim. After nearly five years of focusing his talents on carpentry, Mike enlisted in the United States Army where he began serving abroad.
Mike committed many years of his life serving in The United States Army. His contributions earned him numerous decorations including two Army Accommodation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, an Iraqi Expeditionary Medal and an Iraqi Campaign Medal. Mike’s achievements are extraordinary, and have been accomplished through his solid leadership skills and innate ability to see orders through.
After completing his service, Mike returned to Michigan where he accepted a role as a project engineer and superintendent with Butcher & Butcher Construction. To advance his skill set and career, he moved to management at Evening Star Joinery where he remained until 2016. While at Evening Star Joinery, Mike oversaw construction of some of northern Michigan’s most prestigious homes, many located in the most challenging, and unique landscapes this region offers. Mike’s specialty construction software skills include Primavera, AutoCAD and ProCore.
Mike’s vast expertise, ethics, and ability to lead others with a team approach, creates a positive work environment. He understands the importance of standing behind what we build, valuing long-term relationships, and knowing exactly what is required to maintain those important partnerships.
